Buying an imported Japanese car is a big decision, and the seller's word is not proof. A Japanese auction
sheet is the inspection record made by the auction house in Japan, and it shows what condition the car was
really in when it was sold there.

What Is a Japanese Auction Sheet?
A Japanese auction sheet is a one-page inspection report prepared by trained inspectors at a car auction
house in Japan. It records the condition of the vehicle at the time it is listed for sale. It usually
includes:
- Make, model, year and engine size
- Chassis number and auction lot number
- Mileage at the time of auction
- Overall grade, plus separate interior and exterior grades
- A body diagram showing scratches, dents, repaints and replaced panels
- Equipment codes (AC, alloy wheels, sunroof, navigation, etc.)
- Inspector's written remarks in Japanese
Why Verification Matters in Pakistan
Many imported cars in Pakistan are sold with auction sheets that are edited, copied from another car, or
simply fake. Without verification you may face:
- Fake or edited sheets: a sheet showing grade 4.5 for a car that was actually graded R
or 3.
- Hidden accident or repaint history: body repairs that are invisible to the eye but
clearly marked on the original sheet.
- Odometer tampering: the sheet's mileage will not match the car's meter. This is one of
the easiest ways to catch a rollback (see the FAQ below).
- Overpaying: paying a grade-4 price for a grade-3 car.

Where to Find the Chassis Number
Japanese cars do not have the 17-character VIN used on European or American cars. Their chassis number
(frame number) has two parts: a model code and a serial number.

- The door pillar sticker (driver's side)
- The lower part of the windscreen (on some models)

How to Read an Auction Sheet
Auction Grades
The overall grade is the quickest way to judge a car. Meanings can vary slightly between auction houses,
but the scale below is the standard.

Interior Grade
Every sheet also carries a letter grade for the interior.

What If No Sheet Is Found?
- Not every car has an auction sheet. A sheet may not exist if the car was sold directly by a
dealer in Japan, was never auctioned, or if the chassis number was entered incorrectly.
- If we cannot find a sheet for your chassis number, you will not be charged for it and any payment
made is refunded.
- Please double-check the chassis number before submitting.
- No sheet found does not automatically mean the car is bad, but it does mean you should get a
physical car
inspection before buying.
