Government Reviews Motorway Services, Sets 15-Day Deadline for Action

The federal government has launched a comprehensive review of facilities and services available on Pakistan motorways, directing the relevant authorities to address shortcomings inside a strict 15 day deadline.

According to official sources, the audit was started following public complaints regarding poor maintenance, inadequate cleanliness, overpricing at service areas, and concerns about road safety and crisis response. The Ministry of Communications, in coordination with the National Thruway Specialist (NHA) and the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP), has been tasked with guaranteeing immediate corrective measures.

During a high level meeting held in Islamabad, officials were briefed on the current condition of motorway service areas (MSAs), including fuel stations, restrooms, food courts, and prayer facilities. The government expressed dissatisfaction over the quality of services being given to commuters, particularly on major routes such as the M-1, M-2, M-3, M-4, and M-5 motorways.

Authorities have been instructed to ensure:

  1. Leanliness and proper maintenance of rest areas and washrooms
  2. Availability of standard-quality nourishment at officially approved rates
  3. Clear show of cost records at benefit outlets
  4. Progressed medical and emergency response facilities
  5. Enhanced coordination between motorway police and service operators

The government moreover cautioned that strict activity would be taken against contractors and benefit suppliers coming up short to meet concurred measures. This may include fines, contract end, or blacklisting.

Officials from the NHMP highlighted ongoing efforts to progress activity management, reduce accidents, and strengthen patrolling, particularly amid crest travel times and occasion seasons. They assured that open security remains a beat priority.

The review comes as motorway traffic continues to increase due to growing intercity travel and exchange. The government reiterated its commitment to providing safe, affordable, and high quality travel offices for citizens.

A follow up review will be conducted after the 15 day due date to assess progress. Authorities have emphasized that no further extensions will be allowed, signaling a tougher position on accountability and service delivery across Pakistan motorway network.
